If you’ve ever spent serious money on a skincare product that did absolutely nothing, or followed advice that made your skin worse before you worked out why, this site is for you.
I’m Tom Hudson. I write about skincare, wellness, tech, and wedding planning from Singapore, and I’m a contributing editor at Grazia Singapore. Tomtorials is where I put everything that doesn’t fit neatly into a magazine brief, or in work for my clients: the full ingredient breakdowns, the honest results, the products that are genuinely worth buying and the ones that aren’t.
Why I take this seriously
My interest in skincare started out of necessity. I grew up in Sheffield with bad acne and skin that needed proper management from an early age. By the time I was twenty I was reading ingredient labels properly, and I’ve been taking it seriously ever since. I’m thirty-three now and the habit has never switched off.
My academic background helps. My undergraduate degree was in Natural Sciences with a focus on biochemistry, which means I can read a study, understand a formula, and tell the difference between an ingredient that has evidence behind it and one that has good branding behind it. Those are not always the same thing. A decade working in marketing across FMCG, agency, private equity, investment banking, sustainable beauty, and now running my own agency has made me more sceptical of the way products are sold, not less. I know exactly how persuasive language works and I try not to use it here unless the product has actually earned it.
The Singapore angle
I moved to Singapore at twenty-nine, having previously lived in London and Shanghai. The climate here is unlike anywhere else I’ve lived, and it took time to understand what year-round heat, humidity, and extreme UV actually do to skin. Most of what I write is shaped by that context. The products I recommend are available here, tested here, and relevant to the conditions here.
I’m also engaged to a Singaporean, which is how I ended up going deep on wedding planning. The guides on this site cover decorations, favours, and the practical details that don’t get talked about enough: research done in real time, with a real budget, during a genuinely stressful process. If any of it makes your planning easier, that’s exactly the point.
How I work
I test products before writing about them. The recommendations here come from real use, including honest failures, and the ingredient analysis reflects what I’ve actually researched rather than what a brand has told me. I’m more interested in what something does than what it costs or who makes it. A well-formulated pharmacy product will always beat an expensive one that doesn’t perform, and I’ll say so either way.
I use affiliate links throughout the site, mostly to Shopee Singapore. They don’t change the price you pay, and they don’t change what I recommend. I only cover products I’d genuinely point a friend towards.
